Why is race-walking ridiculed or doesn't get much respect? (Athletics-Road Racing)?

It is a very difficult event and most people do not understand how it works. It looks funny to them when compared to running or just normal walking. They do not realize the speed the athletes are traveling, and how hard it is to do.
