Very faint line on pregnancy test?

hello, ive had a sicky feeling past couple days not due my period in a few days, just out of curiousity i took a test this morning it was solid red line and a very faint line next to it very faint , went to the doctors later in the afternoon and did one there and they told me i wasnt pregnant how can this be? i thought never got false positives?
