Do cops really do this?

My brother in law found out that I was gonna sneak out, so he told my sister he called the cops, but she doesnt know if he really did. He said theyll watch the house and itll be like an "insurance policy" to make sure I dont sneak out. Don't the cops have to tell your parents? Do you think he really did?
