No menstrual cycle for several months...?

It's been since last September since Aunt Flo decided to visit me. I've always had irregular periods, but I have never gone this long without. My husband and I have been married 2 years and would eventually like to have children, however I'm getting a little freaked out because I don't think it's possible to have a baby with no period. My question is are there any medications that can be prescribed to me, or any natural remedies that would 'jump-start' my period, so to speak? The lack there of is taking it's toll on me and I've gained weight, feel extremely tired and cranky, and I am for sure not pregnant. PLEASE HELP!
