Is promiscuous automatically a negative term? Why do some people have such a problem with it?

The dictionary definition is: Having casual ual relations frequently with different partners; indiscriminate in the choice of ual partners. Why do some people have a problem when other use this word. If someone is having casual ual relations then he/she is promiscuous.
